A ship laden with emergency aid from the Tamil Nadu Government is currently sailing to Sri Lanka, bringing crucial support to communities ravaged by Cyclone Ditwah and the resulting floods and landslides.
The vessel departed today from the Port of Tuticorin, carrying 950 metric tons of essential supplies, including food and clothing, for distribution to affected families. This humanitarian mission was initiated under the directives of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.
The aid comes in response to a formal request from Sri Lanka's Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, Dr. Ganeshnathan Geethishwaran, who acted under the guidance of Minister Vijitha Herath. At a ceremony this morning, Chief Minister Stalin symbolically handed over the donation to Dr. Geethishwaran. The event was attended by officials from the Tamil Nadu government and representatives from the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission.
Sri Lanka is grappling with widespread displacement and severe damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods following the devastating storm, and continues to welcome international humanitarian assistance.
